The 2017 SAG Awards on Sunday featured an In Memoriam tribute to the actors we lost over the last year. Check out the video below.
The moving segment was introduced by SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris, and had particular meaning for her. As Gossip Cop reported, Carteris originally stepped into the union’s top role following the death of Ken Howard last March. Howard was a beloved actor and respected leader, whom Carteris now honored on stage at the Screen Actors Guild’s signature event.
This year’s In Memoriam also comes just days after the death of Mary Tyler Moore. The iconic actress received the guild’s highest honor, the Life Achievement Award, in 2012. Of course, the tribute also paid attention to Debbie Reynolds, who was bestowed with the same award in 2015. Her presentation that night was led by daughter Carrie Fisher, who was also recognized now during the In Memoriam.
The montage also acknowledged Patty Duke, Jack Riley, First Lady Nancy Reagan, Alan Young, Anton Yelchin, Alexis Arquette, Anne Jackson, Kenny Baker, Florence Henderson, Robert Vaughn, William Christopher, George Kennedy, and Doris Roberts. That’s in addition to Larry Drake, Jon Polito, Garry Shandling, John McMartin, Thomas Mikal Ford, Beth Howard, Ron Glass, Fyvush Finkel, Steven Hill, Abe Vigoda, Prince, Alan Thicke, Zsa Zsa Gabbor, Garry Marshall, Gene Wilder, and more.
As Gossip Cop reported at the time, Reynolds and Fisher also received a tribute at the Golden Globes earlier this month. Next month, the Academy Awards will have an In Memoriam during the Oscars. Watch full video of the SAG Awards segment below.
