Always Dreaming gets his first shot at a Triple Crown run as he enters the Preakness, the second of three Triple Crown races. The horse enters today’s race as the favorite to win after his impressive run at the Kentucky Derby.
Trainer Todd Pletcher is fine with the horse drawing the No. 4 post. Pletcher spoke with ESPN about the draw.
“It’s fine. He’s usually a very good horse coming away from the gate,” Pletcher told ESPN.
Derby fans will see some familiar names in the field of ten horses. Classic Empire is a contender to challenge Always Dreaming. He had a rough outing at Churchill Downs where his eye was swollen shut after the race.
Lookin at Lee, Hence and Gunnevera are some of the other horses competing in today’s race who also ran at the Kentucky Derby. Classic Empire’s trainer Mark Casse noted to ESPN the team wants to win but will be rooting for Always Dreaming if they come up short.
“We want people to watch. If we can’t win, I want Always Dreaming to win because this sport is so important to me. It’s always nice to have a horse going for the Triple Crown. If we can’t win, I hope he does,” Casse told ESPN.
