Madonna has NOT filed for the adoption of two children from Malawi, Africa, despite an inaccurate report. Gossip Cop can help clear up the situation.
According to the Associated Press, the singer appeared before a Lilongwe High Court judge to file adopting papers, and is supposedly waiting for her application to be approved. An unreliable source claimed that the decision will take a week, and that Madonna was accompanied by the two young children she’s allegedly seeking to adopt.
But shortly after the story broke, Madonna released a statement shooting down the claim. “I am in Malawi to check on the children’s hospital in Blantyre and my other work with Raising Malawi, and then heading home,” she explained. “The rumors of an adoption process are untrue.”
The singer does, however, already have two other children adopted from Malawi. She adopted her son, David Banda, from the nation in 2006, and adopted her daughter, Mercy James, in 2009. Madonna has been a regular visitor to Malawi since adopting her two children, and has often brought the kids back to visit their home villages and embrace their roots. In 2006, she founded the charity Raising Malawi, an organization dedicated to helping with the extreme poverty and hardships faced by the children of the country.
This isn’t the first time there has been a false adoption story involving Madonna. In March 2016, Gossip Cop busted a report from the National Enquirer that wrongly claimed the singer was adopting a baby boy amidst her custody battle with ex-husband Guy Ritchie over their son Rocco. At the time, a source close to Madonna told us it was “not true.”
