Lorde sang “Green Light” on this week’s “SNL.” The song is the first single off her upcoming album Melodrama, which is set for release on June 16. See the video below of Lorde’s performance of “Green Light” on “Saturday Night Live.”
This marks Lorde’s debut as the musical guest on “SNL.” It’s also the first time she’s performed “Green Light” live on TV. Right before “Green Light” came out, Lorde tweeted, “I am so proud of this song. It’s very different, and kinda unexpected. It’s complex and funny and sad and joyous and it’ll make you DANCE.”
The music video for “Green Light,” which has been viewed more than 21 million times since it was released a little more than a week ago, features Lorde dancing in the streets, in a bathroom, and even on top of a SUV. Inside the ladies room of the club where she dances is Jack Antonoff playing piano. He co-wrote “Green Light” with Lorde.
To date, “Green Light” has reached number 30 on Billboard’s Mainstay Top 40, 29 on its Alternative Songs chart, and 32 on the Adult Top 40 chart. It also came in at 100 on the Hot 100 chart. Check out the video below of Lorde’s performance of “Green Light” on “SNL.”
