I keep coming back to this word, “gratitude.”
Everyone talks about work/life balance as the term to live by. What exactly does work/life balance look like? Most people I talk to say they have a right work/life balance. When was the last time you heard someone say, “My work/life balance is off” or My work/life balance is not right.”
Once again, I keep coming back to the word “gratitude.”
Today it is so easy to say our country has lost its ways. We can look at our government and believe that nothing good is going to happen. In 2017, if there isn’t a Trump story on the news, there isn’t a story. If someone doesn’t like something, they can let their feelings be known on social media or through protesting.
Again, I come back to the word
gratitude

Today, I write this article as my mom is in a battle with cancer and my father is going through rehabilitation after surgery to repair a broken pelvis bone. Every day I see my parents, I am reminded how thankful I am to have them, and we remind each other to be thankful for all the blessings we have received. Also, I am reminded how thankful I am to have a loving wife and family. Without this support system in place, I think the day to day activities would be insurmountable.
If I have learned anything throughout my professional career, every day I need to come to work with a sense of appreciation and thankfulness. Every day I start the day with prayer and a Bible verse. Love and Life have been given to us through Jesus and without that foundation to stand on, my life would have no purpose. I am always reminded of all the blessings I have.
Leading in 2017
No one has all the answers today. Our world is rapidly changing by the minute and will continue to change. Leaders make tough decisions, and often these decisions affect the lives of the people we work with. I write this article because as a leader, I need to be reminded to start each day with a sense of gratitude. Every day is a new day, and I need to be respectful of every person I come in contact with. If you have a minute, take some time and think about the word, “gratitude” it will quickly help you set your priorities and understand where you should focus your time.
