E. L. James, author of the “Fifty Shades” trilogy, appeared on Monday’s “Today Show” to discuss the highly-anticipated Fifty Shades Darker and her inspiration for the novels. Watch the full interview below!
When asked by “Today” co-anchor Hoda Kotb if James feels any looming pressure about the success of Fifty Shades Darker, she said, “Absolutely. Of course there’s always pressure. The last movie was so successful. We just want people to go in and see it and enjoy it, people who read the books, people who haven’t read the books, people who saw the movie, people who didn’t see the movie, it’s there to entertain everybody.”
Kotb went on to ask James how she originally found inspiration to write her hugely successful novels. “I think it’s just through reading, and doing, sometimes.” James noted. “Let’s just leave it at that.” Kotb also asked the author if her husband, the screenwriter of the movie and the “least romantic guy in the world,” is excited about the release of the film. “He’s very excited about it as well. He’s definitely been a great source of strength and a comfort to me sometimes through this extraordinary journey that we’ve both been on.”
James then compared both movies and the differences between them. When asked if the sequel was more of a love story, James said, “We see Christian and Ana coming together as it were, they’re coming towards each other. We see the romance blossom in their relationship as they meet each other’s needs.” “It’s [also] definitely more of a thriller, we’ve got some things from Christian’s past that come into effect.” As Gossip Cop reported, the first trailer for Fifty Shades Darker was released in September, with the movie hitting theaters February 10.
