Sarah Michelle Gellar is thanking fans on the 20th anniversary of “Buffy The Vampire Slayer.”
The beloved WB/UPN series was inspired by the 1992 film of the same name. Joss Whedon, who wrote the original script for the movie, created his own small-screen episodic version, which premiered on March 10, 1997. It quickly became a cult favorite, and ran for seven seasons with 144 episodes.
As the milestone anniversary approached, cast members and fans have taken a nostalgia trip on social media. And now that it’s actually here, Gellar and her co-stars are tweeting their gratitude for the show that changed their lives. Gellar herself posted the above photo, writing, “#buffyslays20 To the greatest fans ever, thank you for keeping this show going long past our seven seasons.”
Alyson Hannigan tweeted, “Wow. #20YearsOfBuffy @joss What can I possibly say to thank you? No really, what can I say?!? I need YOU to write it!!!” Whedon lovingly responded, “And I need you to say it.” Emma Caufield also tweeted to Whedon, “@joss sending you a huge thank you and an awkward hug for hiring me all those years ago. #buffyslays20 #BuffyTheVampireSlayer.”
Anthony Stewart Head wrote on his own page, “#BuffySlays20 Here’s to all who watched, and all who were part of its creation, but most of all, here’s to you @joss – grrrr, aargh x.” For his part, David Boreanaz posted a number of articles on Twitter about the show.” He, of course, went on to star in the “Buffy” spin-off series, “Angel.” Co-stars Michelle Trachtenberg, James Marsters, and Eliza Dushku shared tribute articles with followers, too. As Gossip Cop reported, Gellar and Trachtenberg had a reunion with fellow cast member Seth Green in 2014.
