Chris Cornell, the lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave, died suddenly on May 17 after performing in Detroit. Cornell is survived by his second wife, Vicky Karayiannis, and three children, Lillian Jean, Toni and Christopher Nicholas.

Police told the Detroit Free Press that Cornell was found with a band around his neck and his death is being investigated as a possible suicide. The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office already ruled Cornell’s death a suicide, TMZ reports.

Kirk Pasich, an attorney for the Cornell family, said in a statement that the family believes prescription drugs may have played a role in his death. However, Pasich noted that the toxicology tests are not complete.

“Without the results of toxicology tests, we do not know what was going on with Chris,” Pasich said. “Chris, a recovering addict, had a prescription for Ativan and may have taken more Ativan than recommended dosages. The family believes that if Chris took his life, he did not know what he was doing, and that drugs or other substances may have affected his actions.”

Lillian Jean Cornell was born in June 2000. Her mother is Susan Silver, Cornell’s first wife. His other two children, daughter Toni and son Christopher Nicholas, are from his second marriage to Vicky.
