‘Pokemon Go’ is available for iOS and Android devices. (Niantic)
Pokemon Go is due to receive an update this week.
That’s assuming Niantic follows the same schedule that they have generally stuck with over the past several months. Pokemon Go updates are typically released every two weeks, and it has now been almost two weeks since the previous update.
The most recent update to the game came out on Saturday, March 4th. This was a very minor update that was not even announced on Niantic’s website and social media pages.
The update before that came out on February 25th. This was another very minor update that only implemented some performance improvements, but it was announced on Niantic’s Twitter page.
Trainers, Pokémon GO is being updated to version 0.57.3 for Android and 1.27.3 for iOS to implement performance improvements.

The last major update to the game that actually rolled out new features came out on February 16th. This, of course, was the giant update that released 80 new Pokemon into the game and also added new items and features.
To give you a sense of Niantic’s update schedule, here are the dates on which Pokemon Go updates have been announced over the past six months, not counting the unannounced March 4th update:
- Friday, February 24th
- Thursday, February 16th
- Saturday, January 28th
- Tuesday, January 17th
- Thursday, December 22nd
- Monday, December 19th
- Wednesday, December 7th
- Friday, November 18th
- Sunday, November 6th
- Wednesday, October 26th
- Sunday, October 23rd
- Monday, October 10th
- Monday, September 26th
- Friday, September 23rd
As you can see, Niantic hardly sticks to the same precise schedule, and updates can be announced on pretty much any day of the week.
However, Niantic generally aims to release an update roughly every two weeks; an exception to that was in late December, when there was an extended period without an update presumably due to the holidays. It also took a bit longer than usual for the Generation 2 update to be released.
Still, based on recent history, we should likely expect to have a Pokemon Go update announced sometime between now and Sunday, March 19th.
So what might this new update entail? Probably nothing too major, as it has only been about four weeks since the massive update that added over 80 new Pokemon to the game. This one will likely be another update that mainly fixes glitches and addresses performance issues.
However, whenever one of these updates comes out, players quickly analyze all of the code searching for clues about upcoming features. For instance, a few months ago, it became clear that Niantic was working on a “buddy” system for the game long before they actually announced it because players found reference to this in the game’s update code. Even if the new update doesn’t roll out any new features, then, it may contain some clues about Niantic’s plans for the next several months.
Stay tuned for more information about the new Pokemon Go update.
