Europa League play returns to Old Trafford on Thursday when United host Saint-Etienne.
It’s foreign territory for the French side, who currently sit fifth in Ligue 1. But although ASSE haven’t played a match on English soil since 1981, they head into the match on a ten-game European unbeaten streak.
For United, the league’s best unbeaten streak has overshadowed mounting injury concerns. Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick will both be unavailable, as will Phil Jones. Jose Mourinho will not introduce Luke Shaw into the lineup, telling reporters this week that he’s going to stick with the current four instead of mixing things up with the youngster.
“He’s not playing tomorrow, because my team is playing well and I am happy with my back four – Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Daley Blind,” Mourinho told reporters earlier this week.
One United player that’s familiar with Saint-Etienne is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The United striker was a frequent opponent of ASSE during his time with Paris Saint-German, and the Swede tallied 14 goals in 13 games.
