Mary Tyler Moore’s funeral was not “snubbed” by celebrities, despite a sensational report. Gossip Cop can exclusively bust this story.
“Snubbed By Hollywood! Celebrities Ditch Mary Tyler Moore Funeral,” declares RadarOnline on Monday. According to the webloid, “Mary Tyler Moore has been laid to rest — but not with the help of her celebrity friends!” It’s noted a service was held in Connecticut and said, “Despite celebrities singing Moore’s praises after her death, very few made it out to honor her memory.”
The webloid regurgitates reports that Bernadette Peters was the only star in attendance, but has no other information to offer. The site has no evidence whatsoever that the funeral was actively “ditched,” or that celebrities purposefully “snubbed” it. Now Gossip Cop has exclusively learned that RadarOnline has insensitively jumped to conclusions, made assumptions, and generally misrepresented what did and didn’t take place.
There was never intended to be a big celebrity presence at Moore’s funeral, which was a very intimate private burial for only the closest of friends and family. In addition to Peters, who was a dear friend, people from “The Mary Tyler Moore” were in attendance, and that was it… on purpose. Gossip Cop hears a larger celebration of Moore’s life will be announced in the coming weeks.
It’s a shame RadarOnline decided to disrespect the icon’s memory with this twisted spin. As Gossip Cop reported, Moore was honored during the SAG Awards in memoriam on Sunday. We’re sure such tributes from Hollywood will continue.
