Three-time NBA All-Star Brandon Roy was wounded in what appeared to be a drive-by shooting this past weekend in the Los Angeles area, according to KING-TV in Seattle. The TV station suggest Roy was an innocent bystander in what may have been a gang-related shooting.
Roy was treated for his injuries in Southern California and has returned back home to Seattle to recover.
Roy — who ultimately retired from the NBA in 2013 after suffering multiple knee injuries over his career — is currently the head coach at Nathan Hale High School in his hometown of Seattle. He was named the 2017 Naismith High School Coach of the Year after guiding his squad to a 29-0 record.
The sixth overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft out of the University of Washington, Roy was selected by the Portland Trailerblazers and averaged 18.8 PPG, 4.7 APG and 4.3 RPG over the course of six seasons in the league. Five of those six seasons were spent in Portland.

Like many others, we’re just learning of the injury suffered by former Trail Blazers player Brandon Roy in a shooting over the weekend in California. According to those reports, Brandon was wounded as a bystander, but is expected to recover. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brandon and his family during this time.
After his initial retirement in 2011, Roy attempted a comeback in 2012-2013 with the Minnesota Timberwolves, lasting just five games before needing right knee surgery.
