It’s been nearly a year since developer Blizzard released their hit multiplayer shooter Overwatch that not only delivered solid multiplayer gameplay, but memorable and iconic characters. Since this title’s release, it has acquired over 30 million players, a World Cup, and a plethora of new content. Some of Overwatch’s massive success stems from the various seasonal events that have taken place, as each one delivered more content and cosmetic items to the game.
However, there has been a lot of speculation and hope that Blizzard would do an event for Overwatch’s one year anniversary. While this was confirmed on Twitter, we have been kept largely in the dark for when that event was happening and what players should expect. Thankfully, today Blizzard officially released a trailer that showcased just how far this shooter has come. In the video, we get a glimpse at the various events, moments, fan creations, and stories behind what helped turned Overwatch into a billion dollar franchise.
The Overwatch Anniversary Event officially begins May 23 and will run until June 12.
Blizzard will also be holding a Free Weekend for those looking to get into Overwatch without purchasing the game right away. This will start on May 26 and run until May 29, so if you are still on the fence about trying this FPS this is a perfect opportunity to give it a try. The Overwatch Anniversary Event will take place across all platforms next week, however, we still don’t know what (if any) extra content will be coming with this event.
