Today, actor Robert De Niro added his voice to the conversation, citing comments from Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) head Scott Pruitt that denied global warming was harmful to humans.
De Niro told an audience at Dubai's World Government Summit:
I am talking about my own country, the United States of America. We don’t like to say we are a ‘backward’ country so let’s just say we’re suffering from a case of temporary insanity.
De Niro was personally invited to the World Government Summit by Thani Al Zeyoudi, the Minister of Climate Change And Environment for the United Arab Emirates. De Niro also traveled to Dubai back in October 2016 to promote tourism in Antigua and Barbuda.
During that trip, De Niro said he would like to "punch [current US President Donald Trump] in the face."
De Niro referred to Trump as a "dangerous leader," a feeling many people share.
De Niro remains optimistic that the U.S. will be "cured" of its "temporary insanity" once Trump is out of office.
